How an Indian Woman Became a Digital Influencer in Basel

Pragati is a happy mom and an influencer living in Switzerland for 4 years. She moved from India with her husband and founded a digital design agency as well as two lifestyle blogs. She told to SUISSEPIC about her life and vision of success.

SUISSEPIC: How have you come to Switzerland?

Pragati Sidhantti: We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago because of the job of my husband. Our first year in Switzerland (just like most expats) was quite a roller coaster ride.  It is never easy adapting to a big change. I was excited about painting a new canvas – not everyone gets an opportunity like that.

SUISSEPIC: What do you do?

Pragati: I have worked in the IT enterprise application area for over 14 years specializing in development, design, architecture and execution of mid-size/large business-technology engagements. I have had the opportunity to work for various multinational corporations such as SAP Labs, JNJ, Unilever, IBM and now Accenture. In addition to being a technology manager for years, I also co-founded two lifestyle blog(s) and a digital design agency with my sister, Manavi.

Our blogs are Be For Beauty and My Swiss Story. They focus on lifestyle content as well as on travel, expat living and women empowerment. At our digital agency we developed an online identity to many of niche brands.

SUISSEPIC: How did the idea of your business appear?

Pragati: When I moved to Switzerland, I was experiencing new things on a daily basis – I felt the need to document my “new swiss life” in the form of words and pictures. This is when, I partnered with my sister who had been running Be For Beauty, an already successful blog with a global audience.

With time, our swiss blog section and my Instagram account grew – it was just last year that we took a collective decision to have two websites – one with a focus on lifestyle and the other with the focus on expat living and travel.

My Swiss Story is my passion project and I love it wholeheartedly. I thrive on my creative and entrepreneurial spirit and believe very strongly in uplifting, elevating, and encouraging women. You will see regular collaboration projects and women being featured on our website(s). We also collaborate with brands/people whose story is worth telling, and our team also offers 1-1/group customized sessions which help you get started on your digital marketing journey.

SUISSEPIC: What is the success for you?

Pragati: I usually equate success and happiness: Every time my daughter tells me that, “I am the best mamma ever!” (like she has a choice). Every time someone messages me and tells me that my article really helped them or resonated with their feelings or inspired them.

In the busy world we live in, if someone takes that effort to go the extra mile – well, what can I say, kindness always goes a long way. I really value the feedback I receive…

In my corporate life success is an adding value to the business and seeing my team(s) do well while keeping my values and feminine side intact.

SUISSEPIC: How do you develop and set up goals?

Pragati: At the end of each year, I always slow down and try to switch off. It is important to celebrate all the wins of the year preparing for the upcoming challenges. I carry a notebook to write down the ideas and goals. It is very old-fashioned but it works for me.

When things are written down they are visible to you. I also have my personal checkpoints throughout the year.

SUISSEPIC: What is the geography of the business?

Pragati: Being online means working globally. So Be For Beauty has a global reach, however its primary audience is in India. My Swiss Story targets Swiss audience.

SUISSEPIC: What is your favorite Swiss city and why?

Pragati: Basel is my favorite city. I love it for its little things: sitting by the river, meeting friends at my favorite coffee place, the Fasnacht (and all other..) celebrations. Also the fact that it is so close to France, Germany and other Swiss cities.

I admire of natural beauty of Switzerland, but if I had to choose the city to live in I would definitely choose the one that I am in alredy even if this means 3 hours of a daily commute for work…phew.
