What is an average salary in Switzerland?

Switzerland hold the highest positions in the world’s salaries rankings. According to OECD data in 2017 Switzerland held the second place with the estimated level of average annual salary of USD 62,283 (CHF 61,660). Luxembourg was in the lead and Iceland in the 3rd place with USD 63,062 and 61,787 accordingly.

Jobs in Switzerland are usually classified as salaried jobs and hourly jobs. Salaried jobs pay a fix amount regardless of the hours worked. Hourly jobs pay per worked hour. Salaryexporter.com estimated the average hourly wage in Switzerland as of CHF 55 per hour.

Michael Page presented a salary overview based on the database of 450’000 candidates. According to their data, three major sectors of activity are paid up to 20% above the top of market range: banking, commodity trading and pharmaceutical/medical device. Specialists earn up to 20% above the rates. Among the most trendy fields there are Security / Blockchain, Mobile, Cloud. Zurich and Geneva are among the top paid cities in Switzerland.

Every year canton of Zurich publishes Lohnbuch Schweiz, an overview of the salaries in Switzerland. According to this 768 pages book, In 2018/ 2019 the most well-paid professions in Switzerland are: diplomats (CHF 13,555/ month), army training officers (CHF 8,192/ month), primary school teachers (CHF 6,981), journalists (CHF 6,440).
