A story of a Swiss Engineer at the World Cup Game in Saint Petersburg

Martin, an engineer from Dietikion, works in Moscow for several years. He was lucky to get the tickets to support national football team during the game with Sweden in Saint Petersburg on the 3rd of July. He told SUISSEPIC about his trip.

“By luck I got the opportunity for a Ticket for the 1/8 final Game Switzerland – Sweden in Saint Petersburg. After a short 1 hour flight I landed safely at Pulkovo Airport. A shuttle to city already waited for the fans and transferred us to a beautiful center, where I had a lunch.

Later in the afternoon, I took a metro free ride to the Stadium area. Futuristic design of the newly constructed football arena was very impressive. The security checks were fast and well-arranged. After a short time, I was inside. The stadium was half-full but both Swedish and Swiss fans supported the teams in a friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately Switzerland lost but after a match we enjoyed impressive game between Columbia and England in the FIFA Fanzone. In the end of the day we had a chance to enjoy nightlife and white-nights, a very long day which are considered to be one of the main attractions of Saint Pertersburg.

To get back to Moscow I took a free FIFA’s night train and could sleep comfortably for 10 hours”.
