Geneva

The Canton of Geneva is a French-speaking canton of Switzerland. Located on the borders of France and the Canton of Vaud, the capital city of Geneva is known as a major business and financial hub, as well as an international center for diplomacy.

Geneva was part of the Holy Roman Empire, and later the Dukes of Savoy, from the 11th century until 1533. In 1536, the Genevans declares themselves Protestant and proclaimed their city as an independent republic. 1815, the Canton of Geneva joined the Swiss Confederation (Confoederatio Helvetica).
